X4P-002

X4P-002 is an oral, small molecule antagonist of C-X-C motif chemokine receptor 4 (CXCR4) developed by X4 Pharmaceuticals. It is a preclinical CXCR4 antagonist with unique properties that distinguish it from mavorixafor (the company's lead clinical candidate). The drug is designed with the ability to cross the blood-brain barrier, making it potentially suitable for treating central nervous system conditions where CXCR4 antagonism may be beneficial. The mechanism of action involves blocking the binding of CXCR4 to its ligand, stromal-derived factor-1α (SDF-1α)/CXCL12, which plays a role in trafficking and homing of leukocytes. X4P-002 was initially being developed for glioblastoma multiforme but development appears to have been suspended for this indication.
