Drug intelligence / Profile preview
XA-9111 is a preclinical-stage live biotherapeutic product (LBP) consisting of a proprietary strain of *Bifidobacterium longum* subsp. *infantis* (specifically, strain CGMCC No. 26615). Developed by Xbiome, a Chinese microbiome therapeutics company, XA-9111 is being investigated for the treatment of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The strain was originally isolated from fecal samples of a healthy, breastfed 5-month-old female infant in Shenzhen, China. In preclinical mouse models of autism (maternal immune activation [MIA] and BTBR mice), oral administration of XA-9111 significantly reduced repetitive behaviors (such as marble burying and self-grooming) and improved social interaction. Additionally, it was shown to reduce systemic inflammatory markers (IL-6 and TNF-alpha) and modulate brain neural activity.
