XAF5

XAF5 is a small molecule drug developed as a topical ointment for the local reduction of excess subcutaneous fat, particularly targeting periorbital (under-eye) fat deposits and steatoblepharon (under-eye bags). Its mechanism of action involves inhibition of perilipin-1 on adipocytes, making lipid droplets more susceptible to lipolysis and promoting the breakdown of fat. This results in reduced volume of localized fat deposits. The drug was originally developed by Topokine Therapeutics and later acquired by Allergan, which was subsequently acquired by AbbVie. Clinical trials demonstrated that XAF5 could improve facial appearance and patient satisfaction with minimal adverse effects; however, development for subcutaneous fat disorders was discontinued after Phase 2/3 trials[1][2][3][7].
