Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a fixed-dose combination ophthalmic solution containing 0.2% xanthan gum and 0.025% desonide sodium phosphate, developed for the treatment of ocular surface diseases such as dry eye disease (DED) and for postoperative management following cataract surgery. Xanthan gum acts as a mucoadhesive polymer that stabilizes the tear film, enhances ocular surface hydration, and prolongs drug retention time on the eye. Desonide sodium phosphate is a low-potency corticosteroid that exerts anti-inflammatory effects by agonizing the glucocorticoid receptor, thereby reducing inflammation without significant risk of intraocular pressure elevation or other steroid-related adverse effects at this concentration. The combination has demonstrated efficacy in improving both objective signs (e.g., conjunctival hyperemia, corneal staining) and subjective symptoms (e.g., discomfort, dryness) in clinical studies while maintaining a favorable safety profile[1][2][3][6].
