Xanthigen

Xanthigen is an oral nutraceutical combination of fucoxanthin, a marine carotenoid extracted from brown seaweed, and pomegranate seed oil enriched in punicic acid, developed and marketed as a dietary supplement for weight management and related metabolic indications. The combination has been studied primarily in obesity and fatty liver settings, including obese premenopausal women, where it was reported to reduce body weight, body fat and liver fat and to increase resting energy expenditure. Its proposed mechanism is thermogenic and metabolic: fucoxanthin is reported to increase expression of uncoupling protein 1 in adipose tissue, promoting mitochondrial heat production and fat oxidation, while punicic acid from pomegranate seed oil is intended to act synergistically on lipid metabolism. It is not an FDA-approved pharmaceutical drug, but a marketed supplement ingredient system used in branded products such as Xanthigen and consumer supplements containing that ingredient system.
