Overview

Xantol is a botanical nanoformulation developed by Aphios for the treatment of depression. It utilizes a proprietary nanosomal delivery system to encapsulate hypericin, a primary active constituent of St. John's Wort (*Hypericum perforatum*). This nanoformulation is designed to overcome the poor aqueous solubility and low bioavailability typically associated with hypericin, potentially offering a more potent and consistent therapeutic effect than standard herbal extracts. Xantol exerts its antidepressant activity by modulating serotonin reuptake and inhibiting monoamine oxidase (MAO) enzymes, thereby increasing the synaptic availability of neurotransmitters involved in mood regulation. The drug is currently in preclinical development as a standardized nanopharmaceutical candidate for depressive disorders.
