Overview
XC-01 is a live biotherapeutic product consisting of a genetically modified, non-toxic strain of the anaerobic bacterium *Clostridium novyi* (C. novyi-NT). Developed by Shandong Xinchuang Biotechnology, the therapy involves the intratumoral injection of lyophilized spores that selectively germinate and proliferate within the hypoxic (low-oxygen) regions of solid tumors, which are typically resistant to conventional therapies. This localized bacterial growth leads to direct tumor cell lysis (bacteriolysis) and the release of tumor-associated antigens and inflammatory signals, thereby stimulating a systemic anti-tumor immune response. XC-01 is currently being evaluated in Phase II clinical trials for the treatment of advanced or relapsed/refractory soft tissue sarcoma.
