Overview

XCEL-MT-OSTEO-ALPHA is an investigational, patient-specific tissue-engineered cell therapy developed by Banc de Sang i Teixits through its Xcelia advanced-therapy operation. It consists of autologous bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cells expanded ex vivo under GMP conditions and fixed onto an allogeneic human bone-tissue scaffold for surgical implantation. The product is intended to support bone regeneration and consolidation by providing osteogenic and trophic mesenchymal cells within an osteoconductive scaffold. It has been evaluated in completed phase I-II or phase IIa studies for osteonecrosis of the femoral head, non-hypertrophic pseudoarthrosis of long bones, and spinal fusion in degenerative lumbar disease.
