XCEL-MT-OSTEO-BETA is a tissue-engineered medicinal product (ATMP) consisting of ex vivo expanded allogenic adult mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) seeded onto an allogenic human bone tissue scaffold. Developed by the Banc de Sang i Teixits (BST) in Spain, it is designed to promote bone regeneration and healing in complex fractures, specifically proximal femur (hip) fractures in elderly patients. The product combines the osteogenic potential of stem cells with the structural support and osteoconductive properties of allograft bone. It has been investigated in pilot clinical trials to evaluate its safety and preliminary efficacy in improving surgical outcomes and bone union compared to standard treatments.
