Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Xelstrym (dextroamphetamine transdermal system) is a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant patch developed by Noven Therapeutics for the treatment of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Approved by the FDA in March 2022, it is the first and only transdermal amphetamine patch indicated for both adults and pediatric patients aged 6 years and older. The system provides continuous delivery of dextroamphetamine through the skin, bypassing the gastrointestinal tract and offering a 12-hour duration of effect when worn for 9 hours. Its therapeutic mechanism involves increasing synaptic concentrations of dopamine and norepinephrine by inhibiting their reuptake and promoting their release from presynaptic neurons, primarily through interactions with the dopamine transporter (DAT), norepinephrine transporter (NET), and trace amine-associated receptor 1 (TAAR1).
