XEN496

XEN496 is a proprietary, pediatric-specific, granular immediate-release formulation of ezogabine developed by Xenon Pharmaceuticals. Ezogabine is a Kv7 (KCNQ) potassium channel modulator that potentiates KV7-mediated potassium current, stabilizing neuronal excitability and reducing seizure activity. The drug is being developed as a precision medicine for the treatment of KCNQ2 developmental and epileptic encephalopathy (KCNQ2-DEE), a rare and severe form of pediatric epilepsy. Ezogabine was previously approved for adult focal seizures but withdrawn from the market for commercial reasons; XEN496 aims to address an unmet need in infants and young children with KCNQ2-DEE. The drug has received Fast Track designation and Orphan Drug Designation from the FDA, as well as orphan medicinal product designation in Europe[1][2][3][4][5][6].
