Overview

Xenobella is an ophthalmic solution developed by Chong Kun Dang Pharmaceutical, primarily indicated for the treatment of dry eye syndrome and related corneal/conjunctival epithelial disorders, such as Sjögren's syndrome, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, and conditions arising from surgery, medication, trauma, or contact lens wear. Its active ingredient, sodium hyaluronate, is a biopolymer known for its viscoelastic properties and high water-retention capacity. When applied as eye drops, Xenobella lubricates the ocular surface, stabilizes the tear film, and protects corneal epithelial cells from dehydration. It also aids in repairing damaged cells and reducing inflammation, partly by inactivating the CD44 adhesion molecule. The clinical trial for Xenobella (CKD-350) specifically investigates a hypotonic 0.3% sodium hyaluronate formulation.
