Overview

Xenopax is a highly humanized monoclonal antibody that acts as an immunosuppressant, specifically targeting the interleukin-2 (IL-2) receptor alpha chain (CD25) on activated T cells. By competitively binding to the IL-2 receptor, Xenopax inhibits IL-2-mediated T cell proliferation and downregulates IL-2 receptor expression on activated T cells. This selective action suppresses antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC) and inactivates activated lymphocytes without affecting resting T or B lymphocytes, thereby reducing acute organ rejection risk while preserving broader immune function. Xenopax is designed with 90% human IgG sequence and 10% mouse IgG sequence for lower immunogenicity and longer duration of action compared to chimeric anti-CD25 antibodies. It is primarily indicated for prophylaxis of acute rejection in renal transplantation as part of an immunosuppressive regimen[5][6].
