Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Xerfer is a proprietary Ayurvedic polyherbal and mineral formulation developed by AVN Ayurveda Formulations for the treatment of iron deficiency anemia. It is a modern adaptation of the traditional Punarnava mandooram, containing naturally processed iron ore (Mandooram) and zinc sulphate monohydrate (Kharpara) alongside a blend of herbal extracts including *Boerhavia diffusa* (Punarnava), *Emblica officinalis* (Amalaki), and *Curcuma longa* (Haridra). The formulation works by increasing hemoglobin levels and supporting red blood cell production. The inclusion of Amalaki provides natural Vitamin C to enhance iron absorption, while Punarnava helps manage associated edema through its diuretic properties. It is typically administered as an oral capsule and is noted for having fewer gastrointestinal side effects than conventional synthetic iron supplements.
