Drug intelligence / Profile preview
XG005 is a first-in-class, non-opioid analgesic being developed by Xgene Pharmaceutical Group for the treatment of acute and chronic pain conditions. It is a novel chemical entity designed as a dual-targeting prodrug conjugate that combines an NSAID and a gabapentinoid into a single molecule. This dual mechanism of action allows XG005 to target both anti-nociceptive and anti-neuropathic pain pathways simultaneously. Formulated as an oral tablet, the drug has completed Phase 2b/3 clinical trials for acute post-surgical pain following bunionectomy, where it demonstrated significant pain reduction and a four-fold decrease in opioid consumption compared to placebo. XG005 is also being evaluated in Phase 2 trials for chronic osteoarthritis pain and cancer-induced bone pain, following the FDA's 505(b)(1) regulatory pathway.
