Drug intelligence / Profile preview
XHANCE (OPN-375) is a drug-device combination product developed by Optinose for the treatment of chronic rhinosinusitis, both with and without nasal polyps. It consists of fluticasone propionate, a potent synthetic corticosteroid, delivered via a proprietary Exhalation Delivery System (EDS). The EDS is a breath-powered technology designed to deliver the medication to the high and deep regions of the nasal passages, such as the middle meatus and sinus drainage tracts, which are often unreachable by standard nasal sprays. Fluticasone propionate acts as a highly selective agonist for the glucocorticoid receptor, providing local anti-inflammatory effects that reduce mucosal edema and symptoms of rhinosinusitis. In March 2024, XHANCE became the first medication approved by the FDA for the treatment of chronic rhinosinusitis without nasal polyps, following successful Phase 3 clinical trials (ReOpen1 and ReOpen2).
