Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Xia Ku Cao Paste (XKCP) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) preparation primarily derived from the fruit spica of *Prunella vulgaris* L. It is traditionally utilized for its anti-inflammatory and metabolic-regulating properties. Modern research has identified its potential in treating hyperlipidemia (HLP) by modulating the gut-liver axis. The preparation works by restoring intestinal microbiota homeostasis and increasing the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), which in turn downregulates the SCAP/SREBP-2 signaling pathway in the liver. This mechanism helps to alleviate hepatic metabolism disturbances and reduce lipid accumulation. XKCP is typically administered orally and is being investigated for its role in preventing cardiovascular diseases associated with metabolic syndrome.
