Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Xia Sang Ju is a traditional Chinese herbal combination used both as a medicinal granule and as an herbal tea. It consists of three main ingredients: Prunellae spica (Prunella vulgaris; "Xia Ku Cao"), Mori folium (Morus alba; "Sang Ye" or mulberry leaf), and Flos Chrysanthemi Indici (Chrysanthemum indicum; "Ye Ju Hua" or wild chrysanthemum). Originating from the classic Qing dynasty formula "Sang Ju Yin," it is commonly used for fever, headache, sore throat, red eyes due to wind-heat in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and as a general cooling drink. Modern network pharmacology studies suggest that its antihypertensive effects may be mediated by multiple active compounds acting on various targets involved in steroid hormone biosynthesis and aldosterone-regulated sodium reabsorption. The formula demonstrates the TCM principle of “multiple compounds-multiple targets-multiple effects,” with potential benefits for hypertension through modulation of biological processes such as nitrogen compound metabolism[1][2][5].
