Overview
Xia Yu Xue Tang (also known as Xia Yu Blood Tang or Expelling Blood Stasis Decoction) is a classic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula first recorded in the *Jingui Yaolue* (Essential Prescriptions from the Golden Cabinet) by Zhang Zhongjing. The formula is composed of three primary medicinal ingredients: *Rheum palmatum* (Da Huang), *Prunus persica* (Tao Ren), and *Eupolyphaga sinensis* (Di Bie Chong). Traditionally, it is indicated for the treatment of internal blood stasis, particularly postpartum abdominal pain and amenorrhea. In modern clinical research, Xia Yu Xue Tang is frequently investigated for its potential anti-fibrotic effects in chronic liver diseases, such as liver cirrhosis and hepatitis. Its mechanism of action is thought to involve the inhibition of the TGF-beta1/Smad signaling pathway, which leads to the suppression of hepatic stellate cell activation and a reduction in the accumulation of extracellular matrix components.
