Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Xiangfu Wendan Decoction is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula. It is a modification of the classical Wen Dan Tang ("Warm the Gallbladder Decoction") with the addition of Xiang Fu (Cyperus rotundus rhizome). The formula is used primarily to regulate liver qi, resolve phlegm, harmonize the stomach and gallbladder, and calm mental agitation. In TCM practice, it addresses symptoms such as mood disturbances, digestive upset, insomnia or restless sleep due to phlegm-heat affecting the stomach and gallbladder. The mechanism of action involves modulation of neurotransmitter systems (such as GABAergic pathways), anti-inflammatory effects, regulation of gastrointestinal motility, and possible anxiolytic/sedative actions through its herbal components[4][7][8]. It is not a pharmaceutical drug but rather an herbal combination used in complementary medicine.
