XiangLian

XiangLian is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula, commonly known as Xianglian pill or Xianglian Wan, primarily composed of the herbs Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian) and Aucklandiae Radix (Muxiang). It has been historically used to "eliminate damp-heat, promote the flow of qi and relieve pain" for conditions like dysentery, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Modern research indicates its therapeutic potential in various conditions, including recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis, tinea pedis, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, ulcerative colitis, pancreatic cancer, dyslipidemia, and colorectal cancer. Its mechanisms of action are diverse, involving the regulation of inflammation, apoptosis, metastasis, and metabolism, inhibition of PTGS1/PTGS2, promotion of autophagy via the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway, modulation of gut microbiota and succinate production, induction of regulatory T cells, and inhibition of M1 macrophage polarization. Key active components include berberine, which has been shown to inhibit fatty acid synthase.
