Overview
Xiangxuan Anshen is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) hospital preparation developed by the Shanghai Municipal Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine in collaboration with the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and insomnia, particularly those characterized by liver qi stagnation in TCM theory. The formula typically contains extracts from *Hemerocallis citrina* (Daylily) and *Cyperus rotundus* (Nutgrass). Pharmacological studies suggest that its mechanism of action involves the modulation of the central nervous system, potentially through the regulation of neurotransmitters such as serotonin (5-HT) and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), as well as the suppression of neuroinflammation and regulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis.
