Overview

Xianlinggubao (XLGB) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula widely used for the treatment of bone disorders, including osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, and osteonecrosis. Officially approved by the China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) in 2002, the formula consists of six herbs: Herba Epimedii (70%), Radix Dipsaci (10%), Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae (5%), Rhizoma Anemarrhenae (5%), Fructus Psoraleae (5%), and Radix Rehmanniae (5%). Its therapeutic effects are attributed to bioactive components like icariin, which promotes articular cartilage repair and inhibits bone loss through anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory pathways. XLGB is frequently used to prevent bone loss in postmenopausal women and patients receiving adjuvant endocrine therapy for breast cancer.
