Overview

Xiao Chai Hu Tang is a traditional Chinese herbal formula first recorded in the Treatise on Febrile Disease (Shang Han Lun) around 220 CE. It consists of seven herbs: Bupleurum Root, Pinellia Tuber, Scutellaria Root, Ginseng or Codonopsis, Licorice Root, Fresh Ginger, and Jujube. The formula works by harmonizing the Shaoyang channels, complementing healthy qi, dispelling unhealthy qi, and mediating qi and blood circulation in the liver and gallbladder. Modern research suggests it may inhibit hepatitis B virus replication, improve immune function, inhibit hepatic inflammation, ameliorate hepatic fibrosis, protect hepatocytes, and have antitumor effects.
