Overview

Xiaoer Chaiqin Qingjie Granule is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation developed by Dongzhimen Hospital of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine for the treatment of acute upper respiratory infections in children. The preparation is primarily composed of Radix Bupleuri (Chai Hu) and Radix Scutellariae (Huang Qin), which are recognized for their antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, and antiviral properties. It is specifically indicated for pediatric patients presenting with symptoms such as fever, aversion to cold, cough, and sore throat. Mechanistically, the granule works by inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines like interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor (TNF), and reducing the synthesis of prostaglandin E2 through the inhibition of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). It is currently utilized as a hospital-approved preparation (医疗机构制剂) in China.
