Overview
Xiaoer Dingchuan Granule is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formulation used primarily for pediatric respiratory conditions, especially those involving cough, asthma, and wheezing. The formula is designed to "calm wheezing" (ding chuan), clear phlegm, relieve cough, and support lung function in children. It typically contains a combination of herbs such as Ephedra (Ma Huang), Bitter Apricot Seed (Xing Ren), Perilla Seed (Zi Su Zi), White Mulberry Bark (Sang Bai Pi), Pinellia Tuber (Ban Xia), and others that are traditionally believed to dispel phlegm, relieve bronchospasm, reduce inflammation, and support immune response. The mechanism of action is based on multi-target effects including bronchodilation, anti-inflammatory activity in the airways, reduction of airway hyperresponsiveness and mucus production. It is not a single-molecule pharmaceutical but rather an herbal compound with multiple active constituents acting synergistically.
