Overview

Xiaoer Lianhua Qinggan (XELH) is a traditional Chinese medicine formulation developed based on the well-known prescription Lianhua Qingwen. It contains 13 traditional Chinese medicines and is specifically designed for pediatric use. The drug has demonstrated antiviral and anti-inflammatory effects in preclinical studies, inhibiting the replication of multiple respiratory viruses (including influenza A H1N1, H3N2, FluB, H9N2, RSV, and human coronavirus 229E) and reducing pro-inflammatory cytokine production. In animal models of viral pneumonia and inflammation (e.g., influenza A virus or RSV infection), XELH reduced weight loss and lung index scores, inhibited viral replication and macrophage M1 polarization, ameliorated lung damage, decreased inflammatory cell infiltration in lung tissues, increased the CD4+/CD8+ ratio in immune cells, inhibited LPS-induced fever in rats and xylene-induced ear edema in mice. Its efficacy is attributed to integrated immunoregulatory effects.
