Xiaoer Xiaoji Zhike

Xiaoer Xiaoji Zhike (XXZL) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) oral formulation primarily indicated for the treatment of pediatric respiratory conditions, including cough and Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (MPP). It is designed to address both respiratory symptoms and underlying 'food stagnation,' a concept in TCM often linked to pediatric illness. The drug exerts its therapeutic effects through multi-target mechanisms, including the inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), the reduction of pulmonary fibrosis via downregulation of COL1A1, and the improvement of pulmonary microcirculation through upregulation of CD31. Additionally, it has been shown to modulate the MAPK and Ras signaling pathways and regulate energy metabolism through mitochondrial proteins like HSP60 and ATP5b. In clinical practice, it is frequently combined with antibiotics such as azithromycin to enhance clinical efficacy, shorten the duration of fever and rales, and improve overall response rates in children.
