Overview
Xiaoji Decoction (XJD) is a traditional Chinese herbal prescription that has been utilized for decades in the treatment of cancer, particularly non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), to improve patient quality of life and survival. The therapeutic mechanism involves the activation of AMP-activated protein kinase alpha (AMPKα), which subsequently inhibits the transcription factor Sp1. This inhibition leads to the downregulation of DNA methyltransferase 1 (DNMT1), thereby suppressing tumor cell growth. Clinical research, such as studies conducted by the Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, has explored its use in combination with targeted therapies like erlotinib for patients with advanced NSCLC who are unsuitable for chemotherapy.
