Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Xiaojiean is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) compound formulation primarily indicated for the treatment of uterine leiomyoma (uterine fibroids) and lobular hyperplasia of the mammary glands. Developed in part through research at the Hebei University of Chinese Medicine, the formulation typically consists of several botanical ingredients, including *Prunella vulgaris*, *Curcuma zedoaria* (Zedoary), *Sargassum* (Seaweed), *Cyperus rotundus*, *Bolbostemma paniculatum*, and *Paeonia lactiflora*. Its therapeutic mechanism is characterized by the TCM principles of softening hardness and dissipating nodules (Ruan Jian San Jie) and activating blood to resolve stasis (Huo Xue Hua Yu). Pharmacologically, Xiaojiean is thought to exert its effects by modulating the expression of estrogen and progesterone receptors, inhibiting the proliferation of leiomyoma cells, and inducing apoptosis in fibroid tissue, thereby reducing the size of fibroids and alleviating associated clinical symptoms.
