Xiaotangling Capsule

Xiaotangling Capsule (消糖灵胶囊) is an approved Chinese patent medicine (traditional Chinese medicine) combined with the Western chemical drug glibenclamide (glyburide), developed and manufactured by Hunan Zhengqing Pharmaceutical (also referred to as Hunan Zhongqi Pharmaceutical) and other manufacturers for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. The formulation contains a blend of traditional Chinese herbs—including Ginseng, Coptidis Rhizoma, Trichosanthes root, Eucommia bark, Astragali Radix, Salvia root, Lycii Fructus, Astragali Complanati Semen, Paeoniae Radix Alba, Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, and Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus—co-formulated with glibenclamide. Glibenclamide acts as a sulfonylurea hypoglycemic agent by binding to and inhibiting the sulfonylurea receptor 1 (SUR1) subunit of ATP-sensitive potassium (KATP) channels in pancreatic beta cells, thereby stimulating insulin secretion. The herbal components work synergistically to replenish qi, nourish yin, clear heat, and benefit the kidneys, helping to regulate blood glucose levels and alleviate diabetic symptoms such as polydipsia and polyuria.
