Overview

Xiaozheng Sanjie Formula (also known as Xiao Zheng San Jie Granules or XZSJ) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by Dongzhimen Hospital Affiliated to Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. It is formulated specifically for the treatment of diabetic kidney disease (DKD) / diabetic nephropathy, particularly in patients presenting with the TCM syndrome of Qi deficiency and blood stasis. The formula consists of six key herbal ingredients: Astragali Radix, Eucommiae Cortex, Sargassum, Eupolyphaga, Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, and Smilacis Glabrae Rhizoma. Pharmacological studies suggest that Xiaozheng Sanjie Formula exerts protective effects on glomerular mesangial cells, reduces urinary protein and serum creatinine levels, and mitigates renal inflammation and fibrosis, potentially through the downstream inhibition of the TNF-alpha/NF-kB and SphK1/S1P signaling pathways.
