Overview

Xibofen is a photosensitizer drug investigated for use in photodynamic therapy (PDT), specifically in combination with intravesical BCG perfusion immunotherapy for the prevention of recurrence of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer. Photodynamic therapy involves the administration of a photosensitizing agent, which is then activated by light of a specific wavelength. This activation leads to the generation of reactive oxygen species, which are toxic to cancerous and precancerous cells, causing their destruction. PDT can also stimulate an immune response against the treated cells.
