Xience

Xience is a family of everolimus-eluting coronary stents (EES) developed and manufactured by Abbott. The system is a drug-device combination consisting of a cobalt-chromium or platinum-chromium stent platform coated with a durable, biocompatible fluoropolymer that facilitates the controlled, sustained release of the antiproliferative drug everolimus. Everolimus, a semi-synthetic macrolide derivative of rapamycin, functions as an mTOR inhibitor to suppress smooth muscle cell proliferation and neointimal hyperplasia, thereby reducing the risk of in-stent restenosis. Xience stents are indicated for improving coronary luminal diameter in patients with symptomatic ischemic heart disease due to de novo native coronary artery lesions and have been extensively validated in clinical trials for safety and efficacy, including in complex patient populations and those at high risk of bleeding.
