Overview

Xilda-M is a fixed-dose combination anti-diabetic medication developed and marketed by Dios Lifesciences. It contains two active ingredients: metformin, a biguanide, and vildagliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor. Metformin works by reducing hepatic glucose production, decreasing intestinal absorption of glucose, and improving insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization. Vildagliptin functions by inhibiting the DPP-4 enzyme, which prevents the degradation of incretin hormones like glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), thereby stimulating insulin secretion and suppressing glucagon release in a glucose-dependent manner. This combination is indicated for the management of glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, helping to reduce the risk of serious complications such as kidney damage, blindness, and cardiovascular events.
