Overview
Xin-Guan-1 is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by the Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine for the treatment of COVID-19. It was investigated in observational clinical trials to evaluate its efficacy and safety when combined with standard of care in patients across the severity spectrum, including mild, moderate, and severe novel coronavirus pneumonia. As a botanical combination, its mechanism of action is likely pleiotropic, involving immunomodulation and anti-inflammatory pathways to mitigate the symptoms of viral pneumonia. The formula was part of a broader effort in China to integrate TCM into the emergency response to the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.
