Overview
Xingnaojing injection (XNJ) is an approved traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) injection derived from the classical Angong Niuhuang pill formulation. It is composed of four primary active herbal ingredients: Moschus (musk), Borneolum syntheticum (synthetic borneol), Curcuma aromatica (radix curcumae), and Gardenia jasminoides (fructus gardenia). Xingnaojing is approved by the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) of China as a neuroprotective agent and is indicated for the treatment of apoplectic coma, hemiplegia, acute ischemic stroke, and intracerebral hemorrhage. Its pharmacological mechanisms include scavenging free radicals, reducing cerebral edema and hypoxia, increasing brain cell metabolic activity, and modulating the PI3K/Akt/eNOS and SIRT1 signaling pathways to confer neuroprotection and anti-inflammatory effects.
