Drug intelligence / Profile preview
XingpiJieyu Formula (XPJYF) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) botanical compound developed by researchers at Peking University Sixth Hospital for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD). It is specifically indicated for patients presenting with the TCM syndrome of liver depression and spleen deficiency. The formula is composed of four primary herbal ingredients: *Panax quinquefolius* (American ginseng), *Acorus tatarinowii*, *Curcuma longa L.* (turmeric), and *Hypericum perforatum L.* (St. John's wort). XPJYF is thought to exert its antidepressant effects through multiple pathways, including modulation of the gut microbiota-brain axis, activation of the cAMP-PKA-CREB-BDNF signaling pathway, and regulation of neurotransmitter systems. Clinical studies have evaluated its efficacy both as a monotherapy for mild-to-moderate depression and as an adjunctive therapy with SSRIs like escitalopram for moderate-to-severe MDD.
