Overview
Xingshentongqiao decoction (XSTQ) is a traditional Chinese herbal medicine formulation investigated for the treatment of narcolepsy. Its therapeutic mechanism involves the modulation of hypocretin (orexin) signaling, specifically by upregulating the expression of orexin receptor 1 (OX1R) and orexin receptor 2 (OX2R). Research indicates that XSTQ inhibits the proliferation and induces apoptosis of SH-SY5Y cells, effects associated with the repression of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathways, including extracellular signal-regulated kinase (Erk) 1/2, p38 MAPK, and c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK). By modulating these pathways, XSTQ aims to restore hypocretin signaling balance, which is central to the pathogenesis of narcolepsy.
