Overview

Xingxiong injection is a traditional Chinese medicinal preparation widely used in China for the treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, particularly cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury. It is a compound preparation containing Folium Ginkgo extract and ligustrazine (tetramethylpyrazine). The drug exerts its therapeutic effects by activating the Akt/Nrf2 pathway and inhibiting the NLRP3 inflammasome, thereby reducing infarct volume, improving neurological deficits, and mitigating inflammation and oxidative stress. It also inhibits the loss of mitochondrial membrane potential and reduces caspase-3 levels. Furthermore, it is noted for its anti-inflammatory mechanisms targeting neurological disorders through the modulation of inflammatory factors (including TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB, NLRP3 inflammasomes, and Janus kinase-STAT signaling), epigenetic modifications, cell-type-specific modulation (microglia M1/M2 polarization and astrocyte A1/A2 transformation), and gut-brain axis interactions.
