Overview

Xinkaikujiang is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by the Wangjing Hospital of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, specifically indicated for the treatment of refractory gastroesophageal reflux disease (rGERD). The formula is based on the therapeutic principle of acrid opening and bitter descending (Xinkai Kujiang), which utilizes acrid herbs to disperse cold and bitter herbs to clear heat and direct rebellious qi downward. It is primarily used as an adjunctive or alternative therapy for patients who exhibit persistent symptoms despite standard proton pump inhibitor (PPI) treatment. Clinical research indicates that the formula helps regulate esophageal motility, enhance lower esophageal sphincter (LES) pressure, and promote the repair of the esophageal mucosa by modulating gastrointestinal hormones and reducing pro-inflammatory cytokine levels.
