Overview

Xinmaitong is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) multi-herbal formula used primarily for cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. It is commonly prescribed for conditions such as coronary heart disease, hypertension, stroke, and type 2 diabetes mellitus. The formulation contains several medicinal botanicals including Angelica sinensis, Salvia miltiorrhiza, Ilex pubescens, and Pueraria lobata. Pharmacological studies indicate that Xinmaitong promotes blood circulation, clears blood stasis, nourishes the heart, lowers blood lipid levels, and regulates blood pressure. Recent research has shown that its anti-diabetic effects are mediated by upregulating glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R) expression in pancreatic β-cells—enhancing insulin secretion via cAMP signaling and Ca²⁺ influx pathways. Identified active components include morin, ginsenoside F1 (from Panax species), cynaroside, eriodictyol, rhapontin, narcissoside and ononin[2][3][7].
