Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Xinqi is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal preparation developed by Dongzhimen Hospital, affiliated with the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, specifically for the treatment of allergic rhinitis (AR). The formula is primarily composed of *Magnolia biondii* (Xin Yi) and *Astragalus membranaceus* (Huang Qi), designed to address the TCM patterns of 'Lung-Qi deficiency' and 'Wind-Cold' attacking the nose. Mechanistically, Xinqi acts as an immunomodulator that restores the balance between Th1 and Th2 immune responses. Clinical and pharmacological studies indicate that it reduces the levels of allergen-specific IgE and pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-4 and IL-13, while increasing the expression of IFN-gamma. This shift in the cytokine profile helps suppress the allergic inflammatory cascade in the nasal mucosa, thereby alleviating symptoms such as sneezing, nasal itching, and rhinorrhea.
