Overview

Xinsuning (Xin Su Ning, XSN) is a patented multicomponent traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula developed from the classical Huanglian Wen Dan Decoction. It contains 11 Chinese herbal medicines and is primarily used for the treatment of cardiac ventricular arrhythmia, including arrhythmias induced by cardiac ischemia and viral myocarditis. Developed by Prof. Shuwen Ding of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, it has been in clinical use for over 30 years and was certified by the China State Food and Drug Administration in 2005. Mechanistically, Xinsuning acts as an antiarrhythmic agent with properties similar to class I and III antiarrhythmic drugs. Cellular electrophysiological studies have shown that it prolongs action potential duration in ventricular myocytes through blockade of sodium channels (notably hNaV1.5) and potassium channels (notably hERG), thereby suppressing premature ventricular contractions (PVCs). Clinical trials have demonstrated its efficacy in reducing PVCs without significant adverse effects[1][3]. Metabolomics studies suggest additional modulation of arachidonic acid and purine metabolism pathways[2].
