Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Xiong Shao Capsule (芎芍胶囊) is a traditional Chinese medicine formulation primarily composed of extracts from Chuanxiong (Ligusticum chuanxiong) and Baishao (Paeonia lactiflora). It is designed to promote blood circulation, remove blood stasis, and alleviate pain. The capsule has been widely studied and used in China for the treatment of coronary heart disease, especially angina pectoris, as well as for the prevention of restenosis after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Pharmacological studies indicate that it can dilate coronary arteries, promote angiogenesis, improve myocardial ischemia and hypoxia tolerance, inhibit platelet aggregation and smooth muscle cell proliferation, reduce lipid peroxidation damage, protect vascular endothelial function, lower blood lipids, and prevent pathological vascular remodeling. Its main active components include total phenols from Chuanxiong and total glycosides from Baishao[6][8][9]. Clinical trials have shown that Xiong Shao Capsule can significantly reduce restenosis rates post-PCI without notable adverse effects[5][8]. It is also referenced in international guidelines as an evidence-based TCM intervention for stable angina.
