Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Xiongshao Zhijing is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation primarily composed of extracts from *Ligusticum chuanxiong* (Chuanxiong) and *Paeonia lactiflora* (Baishao). It is specifically developed for the treatment of migraine and other vascular headaches, particularly those associated with the TCM diagnosis of blood stasis. The pharmacological profile of Xiongshao Zhijing involves the regulation of vasoactive substances implicated in migraine pathogenesis; research indicates it can significantly reduce levels of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and endothelin-1 (ET-1) in the blood. Additionally, the formula is thought to modulate the serotonergic system and improve cerebral hemodynamics. It is typically administered in a granule dosage form for oral consumption.
