XL080 is a preclinical-stage PASylated protein therapeutic being developed by XL-protein for the treatment of infectious and inflammatory diseases. The drug consists of interferon-alpha (IFN-alpha) genetically fused to a conformationally disordered polypeptide sequence composed of proline, alanine, and serine (PAS). This proprietary PASylation technology increases the hydrodynamic volume of the cytokine, thereby reducing renal filtration and significantly extending its plasma half-life. By improving the pharmacokinetic profile of IFN-alpha, XL080 aims to provide a more convenient dosing regimen and potentially improved tolerability compared to non-modified or PEGylated interferon therapies.
