Overview

XL110 is a preclinical-stage, long-acting glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist being developed by XL-protein for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. The molecule is a recombinant fusion protein consisting of exenatide (a synthetic version of the incretin mimetic exendin-4) and a PAS polypeptide sequence (comprising Proline, Alanine, and Serine). XL-protein's proprietary PASylation technology increases the hydrodynamic volume of the peptide, thereby reducing renal clearance and significantly extending its plasma half-life. This modification allows for a more convenient dosing schedule compared to native exenatide while maintaining its pharmacological activity, which includes stimulating glucose-dependent insulin secretion, inhibiting glucagon release, and slowing gastric emptying.
