XL150 is a long-acting, PASylated recombinant version of human granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) developed by XL-protein. The drug utilizes the company's proprietary PASylation technology, which involves the genetic fusion of the therapeutic protein with a conformationally disordered polypeptide sequence consisting of Proline, Alanine, and Serine (PAS). This modification increases the hydrodynamic volume of the molecule, thereby slowing renal clearance and significantly extending its plasma half-life compared to the wild-type cytokine. XL150 is currently in preclinical development for neurological indications. In the context of neurology, GM-CSF is investigated for its potential neuroprotective and immunomodulatory effects, such as the stimulation of regulatory T cells (Tregs) to mitigate neuroinflammation in diseases like Parkinson's or Alzheimer's.
