Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Xla1 is a live biotherapeutic product (LBP) containing a single bacterial strain of *Christensenella minuta* DSM 33407 as its active substance. It is being developed for the treatment of obesity and associated metabolic disorders. The drug is administered as an oral capsule. Xla1 works by modulating the gut microbiome, as Christensenella is a keystone bacteria of healthy human gut microbiome whose absence is linked to obesity and metabolic disorders. The relative abundance of Christensenella in the human gut is inversely related to host body mass index (BMI) and to the presence of several metabolic disease markers. Preclinical studies have demonstrated substantial efficacy of Xla1 on obesity and related metabolic markers.
